Flood submerges Surabaya during Idul Fitri
SURABAYA: Floodwaters inundated several areas in downtown Surabaya, East Java, during Idul Fitri festivities on Sunday, leaving a number of vehicles stranded on city roads.
The flooding, following a 30-minute deluge from 02:00 p.m., also forced local Muslims to stay at home during the post- Ramadhan celebrations.
Areas submerged by the flood included Jl. Maj. Gen. Sungkono, where floodwaters reached 50 centimeters high, leaving tens of private and city passenger cars and dozens of people stranded.
Most city passenger cars chose to postpone operating after the rains that also flooded Jalan Raya Darmo Permai. --Antara
