Flood Submerges Klaten–Gunungkidul Main Road as Dam Embankment Breaches
Floods in Cawas district, Klaten, cut off access to the Klaten–Gunungkidul Main Road. The provincial route could not be traversed as it was submerged. DetikJateng observed at 08:00 WIB on Thursday, 4 March 2026 that water trapped to the south of the Cawas Police Station at the traffic circle, with traffic diverted eastward. Residential areas in Desa Cawas and surrounding areas were inundated by fast-flowing water from the Dengkeng River. From the front of the Cawas petrol station southwards, water filled the main road to about 20 centimetres. Further south, the water deepened to around 1 metre, and several motorcycles attempting to pass became stranded. A Klaten Fire Department (Damkar) officer, Baskoro, said the Dengkeng River embankment in Dusun Jetakan breached at around 01:30 WIB, with water rushing into settlements. The embankment of Desa Japanan also breached. Klaten Regency BPBD Chief Executor (Kalak) Syahruna explained that moderate-to-heavy rainfall occurred on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, around 16:30–23:00 WIB. By 02:46 WIB today, five villages in Trucuk District were submerged: Desa Kalikebo, Trucuk, Karangpakel, Gaden, and Planggu. Water levels varied from 20 centimetres to 1 metre.
