Flood Prevention: South Jakarta Prepares 2.8-Hectare Reservoir on Jalan Rengas
A reservoir spanning 2.8 hectares is being prepared by the South Jakarta city government as a measure to anticipate flooding. This reservoir will be located on Jalan Rengas, Bintaro, Pesanggrahan.
“Besides absorption wells, the land owned by the DKI Provincial Government on Jalan Rengas will be utilised as a reservoir,” said the Head of the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department, Santo, at Danau Cavalio Pesanggrahan, Jakarta, on Sunday (5/4), quoted by Antara.
According to Santo, the land will be used as a reservoir to reduce water pooling in the surrounding areas.
The existence of this reservoir is expected by the South Jakarta city government to significantly minimise water pooling in the Swadarma and Kali Keuangan areas in Pesanggrahan.
“If this reservoir project is completed, those areas will be greatly assisted (in dealing with flooding),” said Santo.
Regarding the progress of constructing the 2.8-hectare reservoir, Santo stated that dredging has already begun. However, he acknowledged that there are still several administrative obstacles on part of the land.
Around 4,000 square metres of land from the total planned 2.8 hectares is still in the process of completing administration.
Santo himself hopes that the land administration obstacles can be resolved in the near future. Thus, the reservoir construction can be more optimal.
“While waiting for that land to be cleared, we have already started dredging on the edge of the land,” Santo explained.
The South Jakarta city government’s plan to optimise the 2.8-hectare land on Jalan Rengas, RT 05/011, Bintaro Ward, Pesanggrahan Subdistrict, is for public service facilities and flood control.
The land will have a depth of five metres. There will also be diversions from two nearby canals, namely Kali Rengas and Kali Uangan.
In addition, the South Jakarta city government will add jogging paths and other supporting facilities in the reservoir area.
