Flood location clean up

JAKARTA (JP): As many as 1,500 sanitary officials are deployed
24 hours to clean about 5,000 cubic meter of garbage in flood
locations.

The head of the City Sanitary Agency, M. Subasir, said
yesterday that his office has collected 4,831 cubic meters of
garbage from Jan.8 to 15 and that there are still about 5,000
cubic meters left.

Most of the flood-hit locations are densely populated
subdistricts. This has created serious problems for sanitary
officials. "The garbage trucks cannot get into the locations
because the streets are too narrow," he said.

The only way to deal with the garbage is to ask the residents
to collect the garbage and put it on the streets. (yns)
