Flood inundates 130 homes in Kenjeran

SURABAYA, East Java: Some 130 homes in Cumpat, Kenjeran district, continue to be inundated every high tide after an embankment protecting the settlement broke three days ago.

Abdul Hamid, a local community figure in Cumpat, said on Monday that this is not the first time the incident has occurred, pointing to a similar flooding in November 1999.

Considerable damage was estimated as a shrimp pond was flooded and several fishing boats damaged due to the high tide flood, Antara reported.

Hamid said reports had been made to the village chief and the district chief but as yet no one has responded to it.(10)
