Flood in East Manggarai Cuts Off Access to Three Villages
A crossway (water crossing for vehicles) on the Wae Musur River in Beangencung Village, Rana Mese Subdistrict, East Manggarai, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), was damaged by flooding on Wednesday (13/5/2025). The disruption of this crossway has cut off motor vehicle access to three villages in the area. “Access to three villages—Lidi, Beangencung, and Satar Lenda—is severed,” stated Theo Pamput, a resident of Lidi Village. Theo explained that the crossway is about 100 metres long, with dozens of metres destroyed by the flood, making it impassable for motor vehicles. “30 metres collapsed,” said Theo. The major flood occurred due to heavy rain that has battered the region since yesterday afternoon. “Heavy rain from yesterday afternoon until today,” Theo emphasised. Deputy Regent of East Manggarai Tarsisius Sjukur, along with the Public Works Department (Dinas PUPR) and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), immediately inspected the disaster site. The East Manggarai Regency Government, according to Tarsi, will repair the crossway as soon as possible. “The local government will make every effort to reconnect this road access promptly. Handling measures can only be taken once the water recedes; currently, the water flow in the Wae Musur River is still very high.”We hope the water recedes soon so that handling can be carried out immediately,” said Tarsi.
