Flood hits West Kalimantan
PONTIANAK, West Kalimantan: Farmers in several regencies in West Kalimantan province are in danger of losing their crops this year after 10 days of flooding.
Head of the West Kalimantan Agriculture Office Fathan A. Rasyid said on Tuesday that 10,805 hectares of rice fields had been flooded in the regencies of Pontianak, Sambas, Bengkayang, Ketapang and Singkawang.
Flooding has also inundated 357 hectares of orange groves, 76 hectares of cornfields, 38 hectares of vegetable farms and 11 hectares of aloe plantations in the regencies.
Fathan said that Sambas was the worst hit regency with a further 6,500 hectares of rice fields suffering water damage. --Antara
