Flood hits southern Bandung

BANDUNG: At least 119 houses in the southern part of the Bandung regency have been submerged due to floods since Thursday, but no residents have sought refuge.

The flood waters also submerged four elementary school buildings and practically crippled the activities of residents in the districts of Rancaekek, Bojongsoang and Solokanjeruk on Saturday.

Water has also inundated 1,350 hectares of rice fields and destroyed a 2.5 hectare fish hatchery.

"The water level has reached between 50 centimeters and 100 centimeters," Kardi an employee at the Rancaekek district head's office said.

Meanwhile, the local disaster task force has declared a 'high alert' status for the flood-ravaged areas.
