Flood Drenches Petogogan, South Jakarta, Sunday Morning as Residents Say Water Keeps Rising
Floodwaters inundated the Wijaya Timur, Petogogan, Kebayoran Baru area in South Jakarta on Sunday morning (8 March 2026). The floods followed rainfall across Jakarta and its surrounds since Saturday night (7 March 2026). The flooding was broadcast live by a resident on TikTok account @Aikaell at 05:00 WIB. In the livestream, a woman filming described water continuing to rise, saying: “This water keeps rising.” She noted floodwaters had entered residents’ homes. Although electricity had not yet failed, residents took it upon themselves to switch off power to avoid danger. Some residents could not evacuate because the water around their homes was already deep. “We can’t evacuate, because the water in front of the house is already high,” she said. The livestream shows floodwater covering the alleys of the residential neighbourhood. Water was also seen in front-yard areas and on the porches. The surface of the water reflected the lamp light around the settlement, appearing to glitter even though the sun had not yet risen. The current of the water moved slowly through the narrow lanes of the community. The situation hampered residents’ activities as many alley access points were flooded.
