Flood destroys rice crops

PALANGKARAYA, Central Kalimantan: About 1,000 hectares of
ricefields have been swamped by water for the past three days in
the worst flood to hit the North Barito regency this week.

Local officials told Antara that the ricefields had already
been planted and farmers had been looking forward to reap the
harvest.

The flood, caused when the Barito river burst its banks, has
also affected the North Barito regency and parts of the South
Barito regency. (emb)
