Flood begins to recede
MALANG, East Java: Floods that have inundated 10 districts in
Malang regency since the Lestian riverbanks broke last Tuesday
began to recede over the weekend.
Seven people were killed, either drowned or victims of a
landslide that came with the flooding, Antara said.
In most areas the water level is still about a half-meter
high.
"We're still on the alert although the flood is receding. It
could happen again if it rains," Imam Sabrowi, head of the
administration's natural disaster containment team, said on
Saturday.
Land transportation has resumed in the area, although the two
bridges over the Lestian River are still covered by water three
meters deep. (emb)
