Tangerang (ANTARA) — The Tangerang City Government in Banten, through its Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUPR), has urged residents to monitor river water level developments in anticipation of potential flooding during Ramadan.

“We have declared an alert status regarding the possibility of rising water levels. We hope residents remain vigilant about the potential for flooding that may occur,” said Tangerang City PUPR Head Taufik Syahzaeni in Tangerang on Sunday.

He said rainfall has frequently occurred at night with prolonged intensity, which could cause river water levels to rise. At the start of Ramadan, several overflows occurred, causing flooding in residential areas.

As a preventive measure, the Tangerang city government has activated all pump station units across the city, whilst portable pumps have been placed on standby for emergency response if needed.

“We are ensuring that officers are also on standby when overflows occur. We continue to monitor all developments,” he said.

He noted that weather changes affect health conditions, and urged residents to maintain clean and healthy living habits, as weather changes can occur repeatedly throughout the day.

For emergency services in Tangerang City, residents can access the 112 call centre or contact the Tangerang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on the 24-hour duty number 021-5582-144.
