Flood-affected schools in North Aceh resume learning activities
North Aceh (ANTARA) — Schools affected by the Sumatra floods in North Aceh district have begun resuming active teaching and learning activities during Ramadan, including SMA Negeri 3 Putra Bangsa Lhoksukon, which has started offline learning sessions from 07:30 to 13:00 Western Indonesian Time.
“Activities during Ramadan, which we call Rebung Islam, remain a priority of the Aceh Provincial Education Office, where learning activities are actively conducted but adapted to Islamic values,” said the headteacher of SMA Negeri 3 Putra Bangsa, Rika Suprina, speaking to ANTARA in North Aceh on Monday.
Rika expressed hope that students affected by the Sumatra disaster would not be swept away by the circumstances and must rise again.
“We very much hope for all forms of assistance for our school, so that we are not consumed by the floods or the trauma of the floods that have passed. However, I always motivate the children — Aceh needs to be revived,” said Rika.
“Although we must indeed face all these limitations, we are confident that in the future new things will emerge that can change and improve our way of thinking for the better,” said Fathan.
According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) as of Monday (23 February), a total of 821 educational facilities in North Aceh district were affected by the Sumatra disaster.
In addition to resuming normal learning during Ramadan, flood-affected schools in North Aceh are also running social programmes, carrying out clean-ups of public facilities every Friday.
