FLONA 2026 to serve as educational space for Nusantara biodiversity

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is making the 2026 Flora and Fauna Exhibition (FLONA) an educational space to increase public awareness of biodiversity and green spaces in Jakarta.

Assistant for Development and Environment at the DKI Jakarta Provincial Secretariat, Afan Adriansyah Idris, said FLONA is not merely a flora and fauna exhibition, but also a means for the public to understand the importance of protecting the environment.

“We present FLONA not only as an exhibition, but as an educational space,” Afan said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.

He said environmental awareness needs to be built through direct experience so that the public not only enjoys green spaces, but also understands their role in maintaining the city’s sustainability.

“We want the public not only to come to enjoy the exhibition, but also to take home the awareness that protecting the environment, green spaces, and biodiversity is part of our shared responsibility for Jakarta’s future,” Afan said.

The exhibition features 10 institutional stands and around 280 tenants showcasing flora, fauna, local wisdom, communities, and business operators.

One of the main concepts of FLONA 2026 is the Nusantara Ecoregion, which is divided into six zones: Sumatra, Java and Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara and Maluku, and Papua.

Each zone displays the richness of flora, fauna, history, biodiversity, and local wisdom from various regions of Indonesia.

In addition to the exhibition and bazaar, the public can take part in a number of activities, including community activities, workshops, school visits, Edu Eco Tours, bird singing competitions, and group exercise.
