Flights to Muara Teweh cancelled due to haze

Flights to and from Haji Muhammad Sidik Airport in Muara Teweh, North Barito Regency, Central Kalimantan, have been cancelled over the past two days due to disruption caused by haze.

“Today is the second day that flights to Muara Teweh have been cancelled because the haze has thickened again,” said Muhammad Amrillah K, Head of Haji Muhammad Sidik Airport in Muara Teweh, on Thursday.

He explained that the cancellations were necessary because Haji Muhammad Sidik is a visual flight rules airport, requiring visibility of around 5,000 metres or more. However, visibility from morning until midday today was only 1,000 metres.

“Because it is not safe for flying, the route was cancelled today,” said Amrillah.

Amrillah noted that some passengers have cancelled their flights and continued their journeys by land to their respective destinations, which takes a relatively long time of around 9 to 13 hours.

“The flight schedule remains available every day, but it depends on the visibility conditions caused by the haze. Hopefully the weather will improve tomorrow,” said Muhammad Amrillah.

In addition to serving daily flights from Muara Teweh to Banjarmasin, Muhammad Sidik Airport also serves return flights to Tjilik Riwut Airport in Palangka Raya using Susi Air pioneer aircraft.
