The 9-13% increase in airfares is claimed not to have impacted tourist visits to West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). One significant rise has occurred on the Lombok-Tarakan route in North Kalimantan. Fares have gone from around Rp 2.7 million to Rp 4 million.

“Indeed, ticket prices are expensive, fuel prices are rising, but so far it hasn’t had much impact on the number of visits. In fact, flights are increasing,” said NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal in Mataram on Thursday (23/4/2026).

According to Iqbal, the number of flights to and from Lombok International Airport is showing an upward trend. The addition of flight frequencies continues, including the Lombok-Jakarta route, which is now operating twice a day by TransNusa airline. Additionally, plans for new routes, including international flights, are proceeding without cancellations.

“In fact, more flights have applied and some are already in place, including destinations abroad, they remain on track, with no cancellations of flight openings,” said the former Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey.

Iqbal assesses that the ticket price increase is not only happening in Indonesia but globally due to rising Avtur prices. Nevertheless, he is optimistic that the impact on tourist visits will not be too significant.

“If people want to go on holiday, they will still do so. A difference of one or two hundred thousand rupiah hopefully won’t be too much of an issue,” he said.

Nevertheless, the NTB Provincial Government is preparing mitigation steps to anticipate possible long-term impacts if this situation continues. However, for now, they are focusing on actual data showing that NTB’s tourism sector remains relatively stable.

“We have certainly calculated it, but we don’t need to speculate whether it will be long-term or not, but risk mitigation has been prepared, Insyaallah,” he emphasised.
