Flights Reopened: Central Java Ready to Welcome National MTQ Delegation
The Deputy Governor of Central Java, Taj Yasin Maimoen, stated that the province is ready to welcome the delegation for the 31st National Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) 2026 from various regions to Central Java. He expressed hope that the mobilisation of the participants would proceed smoothly.
“Regarding flight disruptions due to volcanic activity, thankfully, they have been reopened today,” said Taj Yasin in a written statement on Tuesday (8/9/2026).
Nevertheless, he continued, the authorities are preparing anticipatory measures in case airports must be closed due to volcanic activity at any time.
According to him, the Central Java Provincial Government has coordinated with the airline Garuda Indonesia and airport managers to ensure that the mobility of the delegation remains uninterrupted if flight disruptions occur.
“I have already communicated to Garuda that if there are any incidental closures, we will establish routes that are as comfortable as possible for the delegation,” he said.
He noted that flight disruptions had previously occurred in several regions. In fact, approximately ten provinces were affected because flights had to pass through Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
Therefore, if several airports are closed again, the delegation’s flights will be redirected through alternative routes using supporting airports.
“If there are closures of several airports, they must be diverted. There may be transits at supporting airports,” he explained.
He emphasised that the arrangement of these alternative routes will be facilitated by Garuda Indonesia alongside airport managers. This step is being prepared to ensure that disruptions caused by volcanic activity do not hinder the arrival of the delegation in Central Java.
In addition to preparing transportation scenarios, the Central Java Provincial Government has also coordinated with Garuda Indonesia regarding the arrival of the participants. Garuda Indonesia is also providing ticket discounts for the delegation travelling to Central Java.
Taj Yasin stated that the amount of the ticket discount varies depending on the delegation’s region of origin. Garuda Indonesia has also added one additional flight to Central Java to support the mobility of the National MTQ participants.
“We express our gratitude, and there is an additional Garuda flight to Central Java,” he added.
The Central Java Provincial Government continues to conduct cross-sector coordination to ensure that the entire series of activities, including the arrival and departure of the delegation, can proceed smoothly.
He stated that safety remains the priority when facing potential flight disruptions caused by volcanic activity.
