Flight of China's Most Wanted Fugitive Ends Upon Entering Indonesia

The flight of high-profile fugitive Zheng Rongjing, who is on Interpol Beijing’s most wanted list, has ended after he was arrested upon entering Indonesia. The NCB Interpol Indonesia Secretariat at the Police International Relations Division explained the arrest stemmed from a request by NCB Beijing on 5 March 2026 to NCB Interpol Jakarta to track Zheng’s whereabouts. Zheng’s trail was detected when he landed at Terminal 2 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Wednesday (24/6) at 23.50 WIB. “Shortly after landing, with assistance from colleagues at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections and the Directorate General of Immigration, we arrested and secured the individual,” said NCB Interpol Indonesia Secretary Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko during a press conference at the Criminal Investigation Department building on Friday (26/6/2026). Zheng is a major player in online scamming activities. According to Interpol records, Zheng allegedly operated the criminal enterprise in one of the largest scam compounds in Cambodia. “The subject is known to be a fugitive on Interpol Beijing’s most wanted list, with activities involving running a scam operation in one of the largest compounds in Cambodia,” he stated. Police are currently investigating the reason for Zheng’s entry into Indonesia. They suspect infrastructure or parties in Indonesia were ready to facilitate Zheng’s illegal activities. “Of course, if a major online scam player comes to Indonesia, there must already be someone here ready to accommodate him, the infrastructure must already be in place,” he explained. Zheng is currently being held at the Metro Jaya Regional Police for further examination. Police will delve deeper into Zheng’s purpose for being in Indonesia. “Before we hand him over to NCB Interpol Beijing, we will of course conduct a deeper investigation and take statements from him regarding his intentions and purpose for coming to Indonesia,” he said. Brigadier General Untung stated the arrest demonstrates the Indonesian National Police’s commitment to strengthening cross-border law enforcement cooperation. He also assured that the police will not provide space for international scam networks that harm the Indonesian public. “This successful arrest is a form of the Indonesian National Police’s commitment to strengthening cross-border law enforcement cooperation, particularly in handling transnational organised crime and eradicating international scam networks that harm the people, nation, and state of Indonesia,” he said.
