Flight Cancellations Due to Anak Krakatau Ash, Soetta Airport Passengers Queue for Ticket Refunds
A total of 22,798 passengers were affected by the temporary closure of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday (6/9/2026), following the spread of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
The closure, which lasted from 01:30 to 09:30 WIB, resulted in the cancellation of 209 flight movements, comprising 160 domestic flights, 39 international flights, and 10 cargo flights. The situation caused prospective passengers to crowd the terminal area, including queuing to cancel their journeys and obtain ticket refunds.
The Ministry of Transportation has assured that passengers whose flights were cancelled due to the impact of the Mount Anak Krakatau eruption will receive a full, 100 percent ticket refund.
