Flawless warm-up for bridge team

JAKARTA (JP): The national bridge team scored a warm-up victory in the Maesa Cup Foursome tournament here on Sunday as it gears up for the Far East Bridge Federation Championship in Perth, Australia, in May.

Indonesian best pairs Danny Sacul/Franky Kawur, Munawar Sawiruddin/Bert Toar Polii and Sance Panelewen/Geovani Watulangis overcame local team Mandala Wina Tirta 20-10 in the final round, to collect 158 victory points. Host team Alsum Prakasa Maesa finished a distant second with 128 VP.

"We have been training, living and sharing experiences together for such a long time that we have been able to build up a lucid understanding. This makes for solid teamwork," said veteran Danny, who has been on the national team for the past 24 years.

The national team, under the guidance of Canadian coach Eric Kokies, is heading for another proving ground in Semarang, Central Java, in a few weeks. (amd)
