Flash floods have struck Nepal again. A major flood occurred after a landslide blocked the flow of the Budhi Gandaki River.

Reuters reported on Sunday (11 October 2026) that Nepalese authorities had urged villagers in areas affected by the flash floods to evacuate immediately to safer locations. Flooding on the Budhi Gandaki swept away several homes and other infrastructure.

There have been no reports of fatalities. Videos circulating online showed muddy torrents crashing into buildings along the riverbank.

The thick water and mud continued rushing down the river, which runs between high hills. The flash floods were said to have originated in a landslide in Chumnubri village, Gorkha district, about 100 kilometres west of Kathmandu.

The Budhi Gandaki is a tributary of the Trishuli River. It lies downstream of another tributary where a glacier collapse triggered devastating floods last August, killing 1,457 people, while thousands more remain missing.

“We have asked villagers living along the riverbanks downstream to evacuate and keep themselves safe,” said Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, the senior district official in Gorkha.

Mishra said around a dozen homes and two suspension bridges had been swept away. A hydropower project camp was also damaged by the floods.

The swollen river, carrying thick mud, continued to rise and swept away a bridge connecting Gorkha with the neighbouring district of Dhading.

“The military evacuated six people from Jagat, who were at risk from a landslide,” Prime Minister Balendra Shah said in a social media post.

Another 18 workers at the hydropower project, whose camp was damaged by the floods, managed to reach safety. Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority warned residents along rivers in the districts of Gorkha, Tanahun, Chitwan, East Nawalparasi and West Nawalparasi about the flooding.

Officials said military and police rescue personnel had arrived at the scene and were also monitoring the situation by helicopter.
