Flash floods and strong winds strike six districts in Tuban
On Wednesday 4 March, six districts in Tuban Regency were struck by flash floods after prolonged heavy rain in bare hills. The floods carried debris and, together with strong winds, toppled trees that damaged residents’ homes. There were no reported fatalities.
The Tuban Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has deployed its Rapid Response Team (TRC) to help residents affected by the disaster. The six districts affected by the floods and strong winds are Plumpang, Semanding, Tuban, Kerek, Merakurak, and Montong.
‘Yes, that is correct, we have sent personnel to the affected areas to conduct rapid assessments, evacuation, and cross‑sector coordination to ensure residents’ safety,’ said Sudarmadji, Head of Tuban BPBD, on Wednesday evening (4 March).
He said the agency had received reports of the disaster affecting several areas since Monday (2 March) at 15:00 WIB.
Based on initial data, floods were reported across six district areas in Tuban Regency. They include Sumurgung village, Tuban District; Genangharjo and Sambongrejo villages, Semanding District; Ngrayung village, Plumpang District; Kapu and Mandi Rejo villages, Merakurak District; and Sumurgung village, Montong District.
Tree falls and property damage were also reported in Prungahankulon Village, Semanding. The floods affected at least six public facilities requiring mud clearance in the aftermath.
Public facilities affected by mud include the MI Salafiyah building in Mandirejo, Merakurak; Sumurgung State Elementary School in Sumurgung, Tuban District; a mosque and SDN 1 in Ngrayung, Plumpang District; and SDN Genaharjo 2 in Semanding District.
Additionally, two houses were affected in Grabagan and Penambangan villages, and a house was struck by a fallen tree in Prunggahankulon, Semanding District.
‘There were no fatalities. We are still compiling the material losses,’ he said.
