Flash Flood in Solok Leaves One Dead

A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team discovered one victim of the flash flood in Solok, West Sumatra, deceased on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 1:30 PM WIB.

“The victim was found by the joint SAR team along with local residents in the riverbed, in a deceased state,” said the Head of SAR Padang, Abdul Malik, in Padang.

He mentioned that the victim was found in the Koto Gaek river flow, which borders the Jawi-jawi area in the Solok Regency.

“After the body was found, it was immediately evacuated from the location; however, the identity cannot yet be confirmed,” he said.

He added that the victim’s identity will be determined once the examination by the Indonesian National Police’s Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team is complete.

Abdul Malik stated that following the discovery of the first victim, search efforts will continue around the location and the areas affected by the disaster that occurred on Monday night, 21 September 2026.

According to initial information obtained by the Padang SAR Office, the number of people reported missing after the flood struck was two.

The search operation involves approximately 600 personnel from various agencies, supported by local residents.

The disaster also reportedly severed access between Padang City and Solok Regency, as flood debris consisting of landslides of sand, rocks, and mud covered the road.

In a separate statement, the Regent of Solok, Jon Firman Pandu, explained that several government offices and residential houses around the Solok Regent’s Office Complex in Arosuka were affected by the disaster.
