Flandy/Eng Hian win Copenhagen Masters

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia grabbed the men's doubles title at the Copenhagen Masters badminton invitational event on Friday thanks to Flandy Limpele and Eng Hian who beat compatriots Tony Gunawan and Halim Heryanto 8-7, 5-7, 7-4, 5-7, 7-5 under a new scoring system.

The new scoring system, consisting of seven points in five sets, was first introduced in the World Junior Championships for the Bimantara Cups in Guangzhou, China in November.

Satusports.com reported host player Peter Gade Christensen won the men's singles after beating teammate Anders Boesen 7-4, 7-0, 7-5.

In the women's singles, Olympic champion Gong Zhichao of China fought from behind to beat local hero Camilla Martin 4-7, 7-4, 7- 4, 8-7 in an Olympics rematch.

But Gong admitted that though Martin lost the final, she had better form.

"I just committed fewer mistakes than her," said Gong as quoted by Xinhua.net. (nvn)
