FKUB Mimika Organises Interfaith Mass Circumcision Event to Foster Unity from a Young Age
The Forum for Interfaith Harmony (FKUB) of Mimika Regency organised an interfaith mass circumcision event on Pancasila’s Birthday, Monday, 1 June 2026. The initiative involved children from diverse religious backgrounds as part of strengthening unity values in a pluralistic society.
FKUB Mimika Chairman Jeffrey C. Hutagalung said the event was not merely a health service but also a means to reinforce national values at the family level. “This social service is not just charity; it is about the meaning of life, living by ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’ and maintaining harmony among communities,” he said on Monday, 1 June 2026.
A total of 100 children from Muslim, Christian, and Catholic families participated in the mass circumcision. The activity was conducted collectively without distinction of ethnicity or religion, reflecting the practical implementation of unity values.
In addition to health services, FKUB and Mimika’s National Unity and Political Affairs Agency (Kesbangpol) provided civic education to parents of participants. The sessions emphasised the importance of tolerance and harmonious social life amid diversity.
Mimika Kesbangpol Chief Ronny S. Marjen stated the event was part of ongoing community harmony programmes. “Today, FKUB Mimika initiated a mass circumcision event with civic education. Previously, health and civic education sessions were conducted by the Catholic community in SP-6,” he said.
He explained that Mimika has a diverse population requiring sustained reinforcement of communal values. The local government encourages the area to be a safe shared living space for all communities.
According to Ronny, maintaining social cohesion is not solely the government’s responsibility but also that of all societal elements through activities addressing citizens’ direct needs.
The event provided free laser circumcision services. It also served as an intergroup interaction space strengthening social ties in the community.
“Pancasila will die if only recited during 1 June ceremonies. It must be brought to life through activities directly touching the community. Today we circumcise their children; tomorrow they will safeguard Mimika’s harmony,” Ronny said.
FKUB Mimika considered the event demonstrated that harmony can be built through shared spaces, programmes delivering tangible benefits, and leadership by community figures.
