The FKD-MPU 2026 Working Meeting held at Hotel Tentrem in Semarang today adopted the theme ‘Synergy MPU 2026: Strengthening Inter-Regional Connectivity Towards National Food Self-Sufficiency and Energy Resilience’.

This forum serves as a platform for inter-regional coordination in addressing food and energy challenges, including the threat of a prolonged dry season due to El Niño in 2026-2027.

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi opened the working meeting directly as the host. In the forum, several central government officials presented national strategies to strengthen food and energy resilience.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto emphasised the importance of synergy between central and local governments in strengthening sustainable food and energy resilience.

‘Cross-ministry coordination and local governments, including the optimisation of regional budgets and inter-regional cooperation, are key factors in supporting national strategic programmes,’ said Bima Arya in his statement on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

On the other hand, Acting Director General of Food Crops at the Ministry of Agriculture Tin Latifah outlined projections of El Niño’s impact on food availability in the 10 MPU member provinces. She highlighted the importance of early warning systems for vulnerable areas at risk of crop failure, diversification of local foods, and strengthening regional food reserves as mitigation measures.

From the energy sector, Secretary of the Directorate General of Oil and Natural Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Muhammad Rizwi Jilanisaf Hisjam affirmed the need for active roles by local governments in strengthening national energy resilience.

‘This includes energy governance, investment, and the development of new and renewable energy (EBT) through a just energy transition,’ he added.

The forum then continued with panel discussions involving regional heads and delegation leaders from the 10 MPU member provinces, as well as delegations from two partner provinces, namely North Maluku and Riau Islands.

The discussions covered efforts to address the prolonged dry season due to El Niño in 2026-2027, food stock reserves, potential inter-provincial surplus food distribution, energy efficiency, green energy policies, and support for programmes and budgets related to the Action Plan in six areas of the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) for 2027.
