Five Young Men Planning a Brawl Arrested in East Jakarta; Nine Machetes Seized
A joint patrol team from the Mobile Brigade Corps’ B Pelopor Battalion, under the Jakarta Metro Police, and the East Jakarta Metro Police’s Perintis unit detained five people suspected of planning a brawl in Pondok Bambu, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta. Nine machetes were seized as evidence.
The five suspects were detained in the Duren Sawit area in the early hours of Sunday (11 October 2026), after officers received information from local residents at around 2.10 am.
“The five people were then taken to the East Jakarta Metro Police for further handling by the Resmob unit,” Jakarta Metro Police Mobile Brigade Corps commander Commissioner Henik Maryanto said in a statement.
Officers also seized nine machetes and two mobile phones. Henik said patrols and rapid responses to reports from the public were part of efforts to prevent disturbances to public order and security.
“Co-operation between the police and the public is very important to prevent disturbances to public order and security. We will respond to every piece of information as part of our prevention efforts,” he said.
Jakarta Metro Police public relations chief Commissioner Budi Hermanto urged parents to increase their supervision of children and teenagers, particularly from evening until the early hours of the morning.
“Do not let them carry bladed weapons or become involved in brawls. If you learn of plans for a brawl, report them to the police immediately so they can be stopped at an early stage,” he added.
Members of the public can report potential brawls and other disturbances to public order and security through the National Police’s 110 call centre.
