Five years sought for order officer
JAKARTA: The prosecution urged the South Jakarta District
Court on Thursday to sentence a public order officer to five
years in jail for shooting Abdego Kaseh alias Jhon Albert, who
later died in hospital.
Defendant Chrisman Siregar stands accused of abuse of power
involving the shooting of Abdego, who is a brother of prominent
gang leader Hercules.
The incident occurred when public order officers attempted on
Feb. 16 to take control of a disputed plot of land in Kuningan,
South Jakarta, which was guarded by Abdego and his gang.
"This incident has caused unease in society ... As a
government officer, what the defendant did was wrong and
therefore must be punished," prosecutor Agung Hardianto told the
court.
Many relatives of the defendant in the courtroom were crying.
Presiding Judge Johanes Ether Binti adjourned the case until
Sept. 8 to hear defense submissions.
