Five years after the merger of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), known as Pelindo, the transformation of container terminal management continues to focus on service standardisation, increased efficiency, and the strengthening of service capacity and quality.

PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas stated that this transformation has driven productivity gains while simultaneously reducing vessel port stays and the time goods spend at the port.

Corporate Secretary of PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, Widyaswendra, noted that the transformation since the 2021 merger has boosted terminal productivity by more than 70 per cent.

“Alhamdulillah, productivity has increased by more than 70 per cent. With this increase in productivity, customers receive better value. Port stays have also significantly decreased, making them more efficient,” Widyaswendra said when contacted on Wednesday (30/09/2026).

According to him, the transformation is being implemented through standardisation, systematisation, and the enhancement of human resource competence. Of the 3 namely 32 managed terminals, almost all are beginning to show improvements.

“Because the merger has been in place since 2021, the improvement of competence and knowledge has automatically been standardised. Out of the total 32 terminals, improvements are clearly visible in almost all of them,” he said.

The transformation also includes equipment optimisation. The merger allows equipment from terminals with sufficient resources to be redistributed to other terminals in greater need.

“Some terminals previously faced issues regarding equipment. Through the merger, we have modernised certain terminals. Existing equipment can now be allocated to terminals that require it,” he explained.

These steps have also impacted port stays and cargo stays. “As a result, both port stay and cargo stay have improved,” he added.

Increased productivity is also opening opportunities for cooperation and the development of new routes.

“From this, we see many opportunities, ranging from business development through inter-corporate cooperation to the opening of new routes or services. Many new routes have been secured because the productivity of each terminal is now high,” said Wendra.

Wendra stated that the transformation is aimed at strengthening the maritime ecosystem while supporting the efficiency of national logistics costs.

“Ultimately, when productivity and operational performance increase, it is expected to impact vessel operational costs. Our focus is on how the maritime ecosystem can contribute to lowering logistics costs while ensuring better connectivity,” he concluded.
