Five victims of a WWII-era bomb explosion in Biak were buried on Monday, 1 June 2026. The funeral took place at Inggiri Public Cemetery in Biak, accompanied by the grief-stricken cries of residents and families of the deceased.

Papua Police Public Relations Chief Senior Police Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito stated on Monday that the five deceased were Deflin Raubaba (41), Moris Raubaba (24), Karmila Ayorbaba (25), Israel Raubaba (7), and Isril Raubaba (5).

In addition to the five fatalities, the incident left three people missing, 19 injured, and nine damaged houses occupied by 10 households totaling 55 people.

He added that the three missing individuals are Yulianus Raubaba (26), Lae Madura (45), and Abis Marandof (27).

Reports indicate that the 55 people whose homes were damaged are currently sheltered in facilities provided by the Biak Numfor Regional Government.

β€˜The 55 displaced individuals are now accommodated in shelters provided by the Biak Numfor Regional Government,’ said Senior Police Commissioner Cahyo Sukarnito, Head of Public Relations for Papua Police.

The explosion of the WWII-era bomb in Biak occurred on Sunday, 31 May, at approximately 14:45 WIT in a fishing complex along Wolter Monginsidi Street.
