Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, mosques across Indonesia are preparing to hold congregational Eid prayers. Five major mosques constructed by PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk could serve as worship venues for the public.

Waskita Karya’s Corporate Secretary, Ermy Puspa Yunita, stated that the company has built and renovated Masjid Istiqlal in Jakarta, Baiturrahman in Aceh, Sheikh Zayed in Solo, Baiturrahman in Semarang, and Al-Akbar in Surabaya.

These five mosques, Ermy continued, can accommodate up to 200,000 worshippers.

“The construction of these mosques represents the company’s contribution to providing facilities that support Muslim worship. As a state-owned construction enterprise (BUMN) with over 65 years of experience, we want worshippers to pray with devotion, safety, and comfort,” Ermy said in an official statement on Friday (20/3/2026).

Furthermore, Ermy explained that in executing the projects, the company not only focused on building quality but also considered the history or background of each mosque’s establishment. This approach ensures alignment without significantly altering the structures.

She added that the mosque, with a capacity of over 24,000 worshippers, features 12 giant umbrellas and date palm trees around the courtyard, enhancing its resemblance to the Prophet’s Mosque.

To this day, the mosque renovated by Waskita in 2015 remains one of the religious and cultural tourism destinations in the City of the Veranda of Mecca.

Historical value is also evident in the Great Mosque of Baiturrahman in Semarang, which was first inaugurated in December 1974.

During the renovation of the building located in the city centre, Waskita did not significantly alter its form but made it more majestic and modern.

“The mosque’s design was preserved with traditional Javanese architectural style adopting a limasan structure. We only added elements such as a water pool to create a cooler atmosphere around the mosque,” Ermy explained.

The company completed the project in just 11 months, thanks to the implementation of a building automation system (BAS). This system integrates air conditioning, special lighting, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) control equipment.

“Waskita is proud to be involved in constructing one of the icons and cultural heritage areas in the capital of Central Java. We hope worshippers will have the best experience praying at the mosque located in Semarang’s city square,” Ermy added.

Next is Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Solo, which is a grant from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Indonesia. The building also symbolises the friendship between Indonesia and the UAE.
