A tragic disaster has struck the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST), utilised by the Jakarta Provincial Government. A landslide occurring on Monday (9 March) has resulted in four deaths and five individuals still classified as missing.

Isnawa Adji, Head of the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), confirmed that a combined task force is currently working intensively at the Bantargebang site to locate victims believed to be buried under landslide material.

According to the latest data from BPBD Jakarta, the four confirmed deaths include local residents and garbage truck operational personnel. The search operation is focused on five individuals strongly suspected of being buried under debris during the incident.

Despite the loss of life, four garbage truck drivers successfully escaped the landslide. They are Budiman, Selamat, Johan, and Sarifudin, who are currently receiving medical care and support.

“Teams on the ground at Bantargebang are continuing search and evacuation efforts. We are doing everything possible to locate the missing victims as quickly as possible,” stated Isnawa Adji firmly.

The Jakarta BPBD, together with rescue personnel, security forces, and volunteers, are deploying various heavy equipment to accelerate the evacuation process. Personnel remain on standby at the site given the challenging terrain caused by unstable accumulations of waste material. Search operations are ongoing as of the latest reports.
