Five Thousand Workers from Cimahi-KBB Head to Jakarta for May Day Fiesta, Police Deploy 470 Personnel

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIMAHI – More than 5,000 workers from the City of Cimahi and West Bandung Regency (KBB), West Java, are expected to converge in Jakarta to convey their aspirations to President Prabowo Subianto on the occasion of International Labour Day or May Day on Friday (1/5/2026).

Cimahi Police Chief AKBP Niko Nurallah Adi Putra stated that the thousands of workers come from 14 federations and labour unions in Cimahi and KBB, who are planned to be transported using 104 buses to Jakarta to attend the May Day Fiesta.

“The estimated number of workers departing, based on our own data from registration and listings, totals 5,724. 5,724 are heading to Monas,” said Niko when contacted on Thursday (30/4/2026).

Based on coordination results, Niko said, the thousands of workers will be dispatched from 27 points in both Cimahi City and West Bandung Regency areas. They will not depart simultaneously. Some will leave on Thursday (30/4/2026) night until Friday (1/5/2026) early morning.

“There are 27 departure gathering points with varied timings. However, the first at 00:00 involves several points using three toll gates. The first is Baros Toll Gate, then Padalarang Toll Gate, and some using Pasir Koja Toll Gate,” Niko explained.

Cimahi Police have prepared 460 personnel to escort and secure the thousands of workers being sent to Jakarta, led directly by the Deputy Chief of Cimahi Police, Kompol Zulkarnaen. Security will cover from the gathering points, the journey, and up to Jakarta.

Cimahi Police will also escort the return of the thousands of workers from Jakarta until they arrive back in Cimahi and West Bandung. Niko urged the workers to jointly maintain conduciveness and security.

“The security pattern starts from securing the gathering points, then we also have officers assigned inside those buses and escort each vehicle from the gathering point until arrival in Jakarta, and similarly upon their return,” said Niko.

With the workers departing for Jakarta, Niko assured there will be no local actions in the area to commemorate May Day 2026. Nevertheless, police will remain on alert in both Cimahi City and West Bandung Regency.

“We are still consolidating from the beginning and up to now, the jurisdiction of Cimahi Police is fully focused on our fellow labour unions and workers heading to Jakarta, so there are no actions taking place in the Cimahi Police jurisdiction,” said Niko.
