Five Subdistricts in West Bandung Hit by Drought, Regent Jeje: We Are Building 48 Boreholes
West Bandung Regent Jeje Ritchie Ismail stated that five subdistricts have been reported as experiencing drought due to a prolonged dry season, impacting clean water supplies and agriculture. The West Bandung Regency Government has prepared measures to address the situation. Based on field monitoring, drought has been reported in five subdistricts: Cipatat, Cikalongwetan, Sindangkerta, Cipongkor, and Cihampelas. In several villages, residents have begun complaining about drying clean water sources, disrupting their daily needs. “Today I checked directly on several areas affected by drought during the dry season. I visited Cipongkor, then Sindangkerta, and Cihampelas. Residents are indeed struggling with clean water, their nearest water sources have dried up,” Jeje said when met in Cihampelas on Tuesday (21/7/2026). The West Bandung Regency Government has taken several measures. Firstly, it has deployed a fleet for clean water distribution consisting of three tanker trucks from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), two from the Housing and Settlement Agency, and one from the Fire Department to meet the needs of residents in affected areas. “We are also accelerating the construction of water sources through the drilling of boreholes or SPAM at 48 points spread across various villages, accompanied by the provision of water tanks to ensure more optimal water distribution to the community,” Jeje stated. Another measure is the opening of an emergency clean water distribution service. Residents experiencing difficulties in obtaining clean water can report through the village or subdistrict government, or directly contact the BPBD Call Center via WhatsApp at 0877-1661-2121 for immediate follow-up. “As of today, the West Bandung Regency BPBD has distributed 10,000 litres of clean water in four affected locations, reaching approximately 160 households,” Jeje said.
