On Wednesday, social media images showed guests at a Dubai hotel forced to lay mattresses in the underground car park after Iranian missiles targeted sites in the United Arab Emirates. A hotel guest recounted being evacuated on Saturday after several targets were hit. Mia Plainer, who had been at sea for most of Saturday, returned to the hotel that evening where she and other guests were evacuated to the underground car park. ‘Honestly, it was the craziest experience I’ve ever witnessed,’ she said in a video posted to TikTok. The UAE Ministry of Defence said on Sunday that air defence had intercepted 165 ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles, and more than 540 drones from Iran over two days. While officials said they had repelled all air attacks on Saturday, debris from the missiles that were shot down sparked fires at some of Dubai’s most iconic locations.
