Five stalls at Ciroyom Market and furniture warehouse destroyed by fire in Bandung

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – Five semi-permanent stalls at Ciroyom Market on Jalan Arjuna in Andir District, Bandung City, were destroyed by fire on Tuesday evening, 26 May 2026. The blaze started around 11:58 PM WIB and was extinguished by 1:00 AM WIB. Bandung City Police Operations Chief AKBP Asep Saepudin said a vegetable vendor was the first to spot smoke coming from behind the stalls, after which the fire intensified and spread to adjacent stalls. ‘Traders immediately tried to salvage flammable goods,’ he said on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. He added that the affected stalls belonged to traders selling spices, bananas, fruit, dried fish, and vegetables. Some stalls sustained damage to their rear sections and roofs from the flames. Eight fire engines were deployed to the scene to fight the fire and cool the area. The blaze was brought under control within an hour. Police are still investigating the cause of the fire, having processed the crime scene and taken witness statements. ‘The cause remains under investigation,’ he said. He confirmed no casualties. Separately, a furniture warehouse and one vehicle were destroyed by fire at Jalan Batu Rengat in Cigondewah Kaler Village, Bandung Kulon District. ‘The fire is suspected to have started from oven sparks igniting flammable furniture materials, causing it to spread rapidly and engulf the warehouse,’ he said.
