Five Permanent Bridges in Aceh Targeted for Completion by July 2026
The five bridges are Krueng Tingkeum Bridge in Bireuen Regency, Krueng Meureudu, Ulee Langa, Lawe Mengkudu I, and Pantai Dona. All are part of the acceleration of national infrastructure rehabilitation affected by hydrometeorological disasters in late November 2025. One project showing significant progress is the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge in Kutablang District, Bireuen Regency. As of 19 May 2026, the construction progress of the permanent steel girder bridge had reached 51 percent. The presence of the permanent bridge is expected to improve mobility for communities, support logistics distribution, and strengthen the connectivity of the national route across Aceh’s west-east corridor which was disrupted by the disaster. Currently, some steel girder materials have arrived at the project site. In the near future, works will enter the erection stage, installing steel girders from abutment one to pillar one as an important part of completing the construction. PPK 1.3 Aceh National Road Implementation Agency, Isnanda, said all construction stages are proceeding in accordance with the established work plan. “The progress of Krueng Tingkeum permanent bridge is currently proceeding according to the work stages. In the near future, the erection of steel girders will be carried out as a vital part of completing the bridge construction,” Isnanda said in a written statement on Saturday, 23 May 2026. According to Isnanda, the permanent bridge is expected to enhance comfort and safety for road users on the national route in Bireuen Regency. Previously, access in the area still relied on a temporary Bailey bridge which has required repairs several times. “This construction forms part of efforts to improve the quality of national road infrastructure so that community activities and logistics distribution can run more safely and smoothly,” he added. In addition to the five bridges targeted for completion in July 2026, 14 other permanent bridges in Aceh are also undergoing rehabilitation and targeted for completion in December 2026. These include the Lumut, Teupin Mane, Krueng Beutong, Titi Merah, Jamur Mesin 7, Lenang, and Gampong Salah Sirong Jaya bridges.
