Five People Still Buried in Waste Landslide at Bantargebang TPST as of Sunday Night
Bekasi, Kompas.com - A number of residents remain buried under a waste landslide at Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST Bantargebang) in Bekasi City, as of Sunday night (8 March 2026). The incident has left 10 people as casualties, comprising five garbage truck drivers and five residents and scavengers. Eko Uban, a rescue member from the Bekasi City Fire Department, said five people are believed to still be buried under the waste.
According to provisional data, the landslide caused fatalities and injuries. To date, three people have been found dead, while two others have survived and are being treated. The landslide also hit several vehicles and a stall nearby.
“People at the stall were also crushed by the pile of waste,” he said.
At least five vehicles were affected. Two vehicles have been evacuated, one survived, while the other two remain buried under the waste material.
“At the time the garbage trucks were queuing to dump waste around 2:30 pm WIB, the pile of waste suddenly collapsed, burying the drivers queued to dump waste,” Eko said.
In the incident, one stall and five vehicles were also affected by the landslide. By Sunday night, search and rescue operations for victims believed to still be buried under the waste were ongoing by a joint team.
