Five more Puncak villas torn down

JAKARTA (JP): Five more buildings in Cisarua subdistrict in
Puncak, Bogor will be demolished this week, Bogor Regent H.M.
Eddie Yoso Martadipura said.

After opening the first Bogor handicraft festival in Cibinong,
some 30 kilometers south of Jakarta, the regent said the
demolition of buildings found to be illegally built in restricted
areas of Puncak would continue in an effort to return Puncak to
its role as a water catchment area.

Head of the regency information office, Denny Muchry, said one
of the buildings to be demolished is a Bank Niaga office, Antara
reported yesterday.

Denny had earlier told The Jakarta Post that a total of 150
buildings located in unauthorized areas are listed for
demolition. So far, only 26 of them have been pulled down, he
said last week.

Rumors have been circulating that some people have rebuilt
their dismantled buildings.

"We are not aware of that. We'll investigate and bring the
building owners to court," Denny said yesterday. (sur)
