Flash floods have struck Nepal again, leaving five people missing and sweeping away 40 homes.

Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said two women and three men were missing after the flooding, Reuters and Anadolu Agency reported on Sunday (11 October 2026).

The Nepalese military said 49 other people, including a foreign national whose nationality was not disclosed, had been rescued.

The floods swept away 40 homes in Gorkha district in central Nepal and caused widespread damage in the rural areas of Chumnubri and Dharche.

The flooding also swept away bridges and hydropower project infrastructure, inundated settlements and threatened more homes. Nepal’s Home Minister, Sudan Gurung, said a bridge connecting Nyakchet and Philim Bazaar in Chumnubri-3 had been washed away.

The flash floods followed a landslide that blocked the Budhi Gandaki river, causing floodwaters to sweep away buildings in their path.

Nepalese authorities urged villagers in areas affected by the flooding to move to safer ground after the Budhi Gandaki overflowed, washing away several homes and infrastructure. No deaths have been reported so far, Reuters reported on Sunday (11 October).

A dry landslide in Chumnubri village, Gorkha district, around 100 kilometres west of Kathmandu, blocked the Budhi Gandaki river and caused flooding downstream.

The Budhi Gandaki is a tributary of the Trishuli river. It lies downstream of another tributary where a glacial collapse triggered devastating floods in August, killing 1,457 people, while thousands more remain missing.
