Five missing after river crash
BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Five people are feared to have drowned when they fell into the water after their traditional boat was smashed by a speed boat on the Barito river Wednesday night.
The traditional vessel, carrying 11 people, was crossing the river towards Kuala Kapuas near the Alalak Berangas district, when, without warning, the speed boat rammed into its center.
The vessel capsized, sending all 11 into the water. Six made it to the banks but five are still missing, reported Antara.
The driver of the speedboat has been detained by police.
Police said the accident occurred because neither boat was equipped with lighting. (emb)
