Five-Metre Flood Leaves Periuk Damai in Tangerang Without Power
TANGERANG — The Periuk Damai residential area in Tangerang has been submerged under floodwaters reaching five metres since early Sunday morning (9 March 2026), resulting in a complete power outage across the neighbourhood.
One resident, Heri (45), reported that electricity was cut off as soon as the flood began inundating the residential area.
“We still have clean water available, but the electricity has been completely out since yesterday,” said Heri when interviewed by Kompas.com at the location on Monday (9 March 2026).
According to Heri, the flood arrived suddenly at approximately 04:00 WIB whilst he and his family were having breakfast during the fasting month.
Within a short time, the water rose continuously until it submerged the first floor of his house.
“Almost the entire first floor is submerged. My house has two floors, and one entire floor is completely flooded,” he said.
As a result of the flood, various household furnishings such as mattresses, wardrobes, and chairs, as well as electronic items including refrigerators and televisions, could not be saved.
“All the electricity has been switched off; the only thing running is a water pump,” said Rifky.
Some residents chose to evacuate to safer locations, whilst others remained on the second floors of their homes awaiting the water to recede.
Rifky estimated that floods typically require one week to fully subside.
“At the fastest, it takes four to five days; sometimes it can take up to a week before the water recedes,” he said.
Kompas.com’s observations at the location showed that water levels reached five metres, nearly covering entire residential buildings.
Access to the residential area has been severed, forcing residents to rely on rubber boats to evacuate belongings from their homes and to assist residents still remaining in the area.
