Five Killed in US-Israel Attack on Iranian Petrochemical Facility

The US and Israel carried out an attack on facilities in the Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Economic Zone in southwestern Iran on Saturday local time. Five people were killed in the incident. “Five people fell after the American-Zionist enemy’s attack on several companies located in the Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Economic Zone,” said ISNA, quoting the deputy governor of Khuzestan province, Valiollah Hayati, as reported by AFP on Sunday (5/4/2026). Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that 170 people were injured in the attack. They have received treatment and do not require hospitalisation. Earlier, when announcing the attack, Hayati said it struck locations of three companies in the area. Meanwhile, as reported by AP, the Israeli military claimed responsibility for the attack on the facility on Saturday morning. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed through a video post on X to continue further attacks. He claimed that the complex was “responsible for producing and exporting chemicals to the regime’s armed forces” and that the targeted facilities were “used to produce materials for explosives, ballistic missiles, and additional weaponry.”
