Five Indonesian players advance in Futures tournament
JAKARTA (JP): Five Indonesian men's singles players cruised on Wednesday into the second round of the Indonesia Futures F5 tournament at the Danamon tennis complex in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
Sebastian Da Costa from East Timor crushed wild card Edy Kusdaryanto 6-4, 6-3. Da Costa will meet eighth seeded Tetsuya Chaen of Japan, who had to fight hard to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Vaclac Duda of the Czech Republic.
Hendri Susilo Pramono, a member of the national team, sent home Yasutomo Nakase of Japan 6-4, 6-3. His next match will be against Frantisek Babej of Slovakia. Third seeded Babej survived to beat Phoemphon Atabut of Thailand 7-5, 6-4.
Qualifier Tjahjono also reached the second round, after defeating national team member Yusmawan Fahmi 6-2, 7-5. Tjahjono will challenge fourth seeded Akira Matsushita of Japan, who defeated Bjorn Jacob of Germany 6-4, 6-2.
National team member Febi Widhiyanto eliminated compatriot Ferdy Fauzi 6-4, 6-4. Febi will meet seventh seeded Juraj Hasko of Slovakia, who was barely raised a sweat for his 6-1, 6-1 victory over Hans Grobecker of Sweden.
After a drawn out match, Suwandi managed to overcome Josef Nesticky of the Czech Republic 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 6-1. Suwandi will face second seeded Danai Udomchoke of Thailand, who gave a free lesson to Surya Wijaya by winning 6-0, 6-0.
Top seeded Jan Hermansson of Sweden recovered to overcome Minh Le of the United States 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Hermansson will face unseeded Robert Krause of South Africa, who beat Niko Karagiannis of Greece 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
Fifth seeded Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan eliminated old hand Suhendar Dinata of Indonesia 6-1, 6-3. Qureshi will meet Kamil Blaha of the Czech Republic, who won 6-4, 6-2 over Ekkarin Pisuth-Arnoth of Thailand.
In the doubles, the Indonesian new partnership of Artha Nesa and Eko Kurniawan bowed out to Steven Byl and Ruber de Kleijn of the Netherlands 6-3, 6-4. Ferly Montolalu and Naharuddin also failed to move on to the next round after losing to Pracharapon Khamsaman and Udomchoke of Thailand 6-1, 6-2. (yan)
