Five Hectares of Kuningan Landfill Ablaze, Fire Continues to Spread
A massive fire at the Ciniru Final Processing Site (TPAS) in Kuningan Regency has yet to be extinguished, with the affected area expanding to an estimated five hectares as of Thursday. The blaze, which was first detected on Wednesday, has been intensified by strong winds and the ongoing dry season.
Kuningan BPBD Head Indra Bayu Permana stated that the fire was initially reported around 4:00 AM local time on Wednesday. By Thursday, the flames had spread across the northern and southern sections of the landfill. “Today, the burned area is estimated to cover around five hectares,” Indra said on Thursday.
A joint task force of approximately 200 personnel has been deployed to tackle the fire. Teams are divided into sectors to combat the flames at multiple points. Indra added that authorities are utilising thermal drones to map the hotspots and assess the extent of the fire to streamline firefighting efforts. Firefighting operations on Thursday were scheduled from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM local time, with monitoring continuing into the evening. Further handling of the fire is planned for Friday following a briefing and evaluation by the joint team.
