Semarang (ANTARA) - A total of 2ability 3,543 members of the community protection unit (Satlinmas) from 8,562 villages/sub-districts in Central Java Province participated in the Satlinmas Grand Assembly at Pandanaran Stadium, Wujil, Semarang Regency, on Wednesday.

The event was attended by five governors, namely the Governor of Central Java Ahmad Luthfi, the Governor of West Java Dedi Mulyadi, the Governor of North Maluku Sherly Tjoanda Laos, the Governor of Lampung Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, and the Governor of Bangka Belitung Hidayat Arsani.

Also in attendance were the Junior Attorney General for Intelligence Reda Manthovani, the Director General of Regional Administration at the Ministry of Home Affairs Safrizal, as well as regents and mayors from across Central Java, and other community leaders.

The Head of the Special Development Control and Investigation Agency (Bappidsus), Aris Marsudiyanto, stated that Satlinmas plays a crucial role in maintaining the community environment in every region. Their responsibilities range from maintaining public order and disaster response to ensuring food security, environmental preservation, and overseeing government programmes.

Consequently, he advised all Satlinmas members not to be easily provoked, noting the prevalence of unverified news, hate speech, and incitement to conflict. On this occasion, he also launched the ‘Good Thumb National Movement’ (Gerakan Nasional Jempol Baik), which encourages using social media responsibly by filtering information before sharing it.

“Let us foster, guide, and habituate our entire community, our children, our siblings, and our families to use their thumbs wisely. Filter every piece of news before it is shared,” he said.

During the grand assembly, awards were also presented to the community protection association (Aslinmas) with the largest membership. Central Java Province ranked first in Indonesia for the number of Aslinmas members.

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi stated that the “Hansip Reborn” spirit represents the revival of community mutual cooperation (gotong royong) to protect their environment, but through a more professional, coordinated, and modern approach to meet current challenges.

He noted that both provincial and regency/city governments must be present to support Satlinmas members. While their primary duty is to maintain public order and security, their role has now expanded significantly.

“We want the strength of the more than 243,000 Satlinmas members in Central Java, who have been working among the people, to become even more solid, prepared, and faster to respond when the community is in need,” he said.
