TEHRAN: National athletes have taken five gold medals in archery, karate and tae kwon do at the Fourth Women's Islamic Games, with tennis promising another top podium finish on Wednesday's final day.
Archery added another gold and silver in the team compound and recurve categories on Wednesday following golds from Lilies Handayani and Delly Threesyadina, silver from Suci Dwi Megasari and bronze from Nurfitriyana.
Karate earlier contributed a gold and silver from the kata division and team class. There was a gold from tae kwon do, thanks to Rahadewinata in the flyweight class, and a silver from Martina Navratilova in featherweight, Antara reported.
In tennis, national number two and second seed Wynne Prakusya beat compatriot Septi Mende 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 to meet top seeded Iranian Rezai Arghavan for gold in singles. The Iranian beat Indonesian teenager Ayu Fani Damiyanti 6-3, 6-3.
Indonesia also meet Iran in the team final after thrashing Kuwait without losing a game. -- JP
