Five former members of the Free Papua Movement (OPM) from Kodap XXVIII/Yambi-Mewoluk have officially declared their exit from the organisation in a historic moment in Puncak Jaya Regency, Papua. The emotional and solemn procession marked their return to the fold of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

The event was the culmination of efforts by various parties to maintain security and build communication in the region. The success was attributed to the intensity of patrol operations, territorial operations in the Mewoluk to Ilamburawi districts conducted by the 613/Raja Alam Infantry Battalion Task Force, aimed at mitigating the presence of OPM.

A persuasive approach by the task force, supported by coordination with the local government, religious leaders, traditional leaders, community figures, and other security apparatus, encouraged the five individuals to return to the NKRI consciously and voluntarily.

The humanist and sacred procession was organised by the 613/Raja Alam Infantry Battalion Task Force under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Inf Alim Sa’adi. The event was witnessed directly by regional leadership coordination forum members, including the Regent of Puncak Jaya, Dr. Yuni Wonda, as an invited guest.

During the highly emotional ceremony, the former OPM members recited a pledge of allegiance to the NKRI before security forces and government officials. The atmosphere became even more touching as they kissed the Red and White flag as proof of their steadfast commitment, concluding with warm, fraternal embraces between TNI soldiers and the residents.

Lieutenant Colonel Inf Alim Sa’adi, Commander of the 613/Raja Alam Infantry Battalion, expressed his appreciation for the decision made by the five former OPM members. ‘The door to the NKRI is always open to build a peaceful Papua,’ he stated.

Echoing this sentiment, Puncak Jaya Regent Dr. Yuni Wonda also conveyed his gratitude to the 613/Raja Alam Infantry Battalion Task Force for their efforts. He affirmed that the Puncak Jaya Regency Government is ready to guarantee the livelihood and welfare of the five individuals so they can return to a better life.
