Jakarta - Five firefighting officers were injured whilst extinguishing a fire at a textile workshop located at Jalan Tanah Sereal 13 RT 11/RW 09, Tanah Sereal, Tambora, West Jakarta, on Friday.

“Five officers were injured during the extinguishing operation. Kusnadi, Rido Basari, Sofian Andri and Adistio were affected by collapse, whilst Suryadi fell from a ladder,” said Suheri, Head of the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Gulkarmat), when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday.

Suheri stated that the fire initially broke out on Friday at approximately 02:30 WIB in the early morning.

“Residents who were playing carom billiards witnessed textile workshop employees running to seek assistance in attempting to extinguish the fire that was burning the textile machine on the first floor,” said Suheri.

However, according to Suheri, the fire could not be contained and continued to expand, spreading to the third floor through the cloth distribution route between floors.

The fire subsequently spread to neighbouring buildings. Firefighting personnel arrived at the scene at 08:39 WIB and immediately began extinguishing operations.

The department deployed 31 units with 155 personnel to extinguish the fire that affected an area of approximately 1,000 square metres.

As a result of the fire, 58 households comprising 231 people were displaced due to losing their homes.
