Five Fatalities from KMP Mutiara Sentosa II Fire Identified, Names Released
The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of the East Java Regional Police has identified five victims who died in the KMP Mutiara Sentosa II fire in the northern waters of Sumenep, Madura, and stated that none of the victims died from burn injuries.
“No one died from burns. On average, the victims experienced shortness of breath due to smoke, then jumped into the sea and drowned, or became exhausted after being in the water,” said the Head of Medicine and Health for the East Java Police, Senior Commissioner Wahono Edhi P., in Surabaya on Monday.
He explained that the identification was carried out on five body bags received by Bhayangkara Hospital Surabaya from Sunday, 2 August, to Monday, 3 August. All victims were successfully identified through primary data in the form of fingerprints, as well as secondary data such as dental records, medical records, visual recognition, and personal belongings.
Wahono named the first victim as Sri Indratmo Wijaya (47), a male resident of Dukuh Plungguh, Mulyoagung, Pucakwangi, Pati Regency, Central Java. The victim was identified through fingerprints, dental data, medical records, and personal property.
The second victim was Siti Fatimah (57), a female resident of Jalan Sultan Abdullah 2, Tallo District, Makassar City, South Sulawesi. Identification was made via fingerprints, dental records, medical records, visual recognition, and personal belongings.
The third victim was Sari Sukoco (39), a male resident of Jalan Kawi, Kauman Village, Tulungagung Regency, East Java. The victim was identified through fingerprints, dental records, medical data, visual recognition, and personal belongings.
The fourth victim was Rino Eka Putra (48), a male resident of Kampung Dalam Number 84, Jorong Tengah, Koto Sembilan, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. Identification was carried out using fingerprints, medical data, and visual recognition.
The fifth victim was Yedi Hendrawan (63), a male resident of Teruwring, Selat Dalam, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan. The victim was identified through fingerprints, dental records, medical data, and visual recognition.
According to Wahono, forensic examination results indicated that some victims suffered from shortness of breath due to smoke inhalation before jumping into the sea. In a state of reduced consciousness, the victims are believed to have drowned.
He added that other victims jumped into the sea in a safe condition but were likely unable to swim or keep themselves afloat, leading to exhaustion. This condition may have been exacerbated by swallowing large amounts of seawater.
